Chris Hemsworth Confirms His Role in Star Trek 4

Despite the negativity that surrounded Star Trek Beyond’s performance at the box office, there really shouldn’t have been any doubt that there would eventually be a 4th (fourteenth really) Star Trek film. When you have a franchise with the longevity that Star Trek has, you don’t simply tuck tail and run at the first sign of trouble; specially when Beyond received very high praise from most Trek fans and movie buffs. So the recent news of Hemsworth’s role in the next Star Trek flick should not come as a surprise.

The news of Chris Hemsworth returning to reprise his role as Kirk’s father is nothing new, these rumors have been circulating for quite some time. Before Star Trek Beyond hit theaters, JJ Abrams had already revealed that he had an idea for the fourth film that would see Hemsworth back in the series. Abrams claimed that they had made a deal with Chris Hemsworth saying that “the reason we made a deal with Chris Hemsworth as soon as we could–was because they have concocted a really–amazing story.”

Apparently Chris Hemsworth agrees, hyping the Star Trek 4 pitch on the red carpet of the Golden Globes.

“I’ve spoken to J.J. Abrams, and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing.”

I think it’s safe to assume that a time travel element will be involved in some way. Before we all start to groan at the thought of yet another Star Trek film delving into time travel, I think it’s safe to say that it will be a lot more complicated than just that. Until we get more info, I will keep the faith and stay positive. I’m sure they’ve got something truly fantastic and unique planned.

If you need some great Kelvin timeline reads to tide you over until Star Trek 4, be sure to check out the series Star Trek Boldy Go. The series takes place just a few short months after the event of Star Trek Beyond. I’ve read three issues so far and I really like the direction of the story so far…plus the Borg, I mean c’mon!
