They just dropped the F-bomb on Star Trek Discovery and it was perfect

It would seem like this week’s episode of Star Trek Discovery Choose Your Pain’ was the “first to do” something episode. Not only were we officially introduced to the first gay couple in Star Trek, our ears were introduced to the very first f-bomb in an episode of Trek. The latter has seemed to piss off some so-called Trek fans, some of which are not even watching and yet would appear to have a lot to say about it. Strange, I know.

Firstly, so many apparently have a very short memory. People were also upset when Data said “oh shit” in Star Trek Generations. Though everyone has their own opinions on the matter, and they are most certainly entitled to it, I have my own. I’m of the mindset that it’s all about delivery and Mary Wiseman as “Sylvia Tilly” embodies the Trek archetype of eccentric quirks. Well done.

Each week this show proves itself more and more. It dares to be different, which is what Star Trek is all about. People hated on DS9 for years because they couldn’t wrap their head around the glaring opposites but at its core was still very much Trek. Discovery is the same. Dig deeper and you will find the poetic nuances that Roddenberry had devised decades before. Discovery is the real deal.

You can catch the full episode breakdowns of Star Trek Discovery every week on Star Trek From the Holodeck 12 pm MST every Monday and on demand Tuesdays via iTunes, Stitcher and the RMD app.
