At least 4 new Star Trek shows are planned plus Patrick Steward could return

More Star Trek TV shows coming plus Patrick Stewart may return

Things are going great for the newly appointed Star Trek: Discovery showrunner, Alex Kurtzman. Last week it was announced that the executive producer would be taking over showrunning duties for the series’ sophomore season. Now, numerous reports have hit the interwebs stating that Kurtzman has signed a new deal with CBS that very could bring in multiple new Star Trek shows. Yep, you heard correctly–Star Trek could be getting up to four new TV shows!

According to Variety the potential new shows are said to include:

  • A series set at Starfleet Academy from creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. The duo currently serve as co-showrunners on the Hulu-Marvel series “Runaways” and are best known for creating shows like “Gossip Girl” and the CW’s reboot of Dynasty.
  • A limited series whose plot details are being kept under wraps.
  • A limited series based around the “Wrath of Khan” story. Khan’s full name is Khan Noonien Singh. He was famously portrayed by Ricardo Montalbán in both the original series episode “Space Seed” and again in the film “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.” Benedict Cumberbatch then played the character in the 2013 film “Star Trek Into Darkness.”
  • An animated series whose plot details are being kept under wraps.

Besides this news, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting some additional details on potential limited series that would see Patrick Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard return to the captain’s seat. The great news is that producer Akiva Goldsman has jumped from Discovery and is attached to work alongside Kurtzman on this super duper mysterious trek series.

Looks like CBS and Alex Kurtzman is serious about bring Star Trek television back to the mainstream in a big way.
