French Western ‘Let the Corpses Tan’ Review

Let the Corpses Tan — B-film style western with extraordinary mind blowing visuals

With a haunting Spaghetti Western style score, the trailer for Let the Corpses Tan looks to be a gift from the b-film gods. The latest French-language movie from filmmaking couple Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani is now in theaters and is steadily picking up quite the positive buzz. Watch the trailer below and thank me later…

Like many Euro-Westerns from the 60s, Let the Corpses Tan is a psychedelic western that feels like an acid-induced roller coaster ride into psychosis, where the bizarre, the weird and the strange are the norm. Using pagan symbolism and nods to goddess worship, directors Bruno Forzani, Hélène Cattet take the audience into the lair of a cult style gang hideout where blood and mayhem lurk around every corner. Though the film’s narrative would seem to be a bit incoherent at times, a keen eye will notice that most of the story relies on the ability to interpret the powerful imagery that cinematographer Manuel Dacosse pairs with Bruno Forzani and Hélène Cattet’s psychedelic saga.

The average western enthusiast may not care for the art house vibes but a fan of the 60s acid-style westerns will surely find this beautiful and bloody foray into cinematic bliss, a rewarding and entertaining experience.

Takeaway: Think Cesare Canevari’s Mátalo’ not Sergio Leone’s Dollar Trilogy
