Star Trek Discovery 2.05 ‘Saints of Imperfection’ Breakdown

Star Trek: From the Holodeck is a fan broadcast dedicated to breaking down, analyzing and discussing all things Star Trek.

This week Mike and Dave discuss and breakdown Star Trek Discovery’s season 2 premiere 02.05 ‘Saints of Imperfection’. Burnham and the crew navigate a dangerous alien landscape in a race against time to save Tilly’s life, but Stamets is not at all prepared for what they find in the process. Section 31 is assigned to help track down Spock, much to Pike’s dismay.

Some Topics Discussed:

  • Kirsten Beyer really did a great job meshing various styles together.
  • Kirsten Beyer and the writers expressed a controversial, relevant and very grounded idea pertaining to the consequences of exploration.
  • By way of Section 31, we got a glimpse of a TNG style communicator.
  • Looks like Section 31 was brought in as a potential literary device.
  • Captain’s log versus voice over.
  • It’s important when talking about Roddenberry’s “vision”, that we also remember that Trek was built off the back of Shakespearean literature. Keeping this in mind will help some of the Discovery naysayers to digest the direction the series is heading.
