Star Trek Discovery Renewed for Season 3

Star Trek Discovery Will Return for a Third Season plus a new co-showrunner

The Star Trek gods have blessed us all with an early renewal announcement for Star Trek Discovery. Yup, the latest Trek series from CBS All Access is reportedly set to start production on its third season in July.

The streaming service has also announced that current showrunner Alex Kurtzman has brought on Michelle Paradise (The Originals, Rogue) to serve with him as co-showrunner. Some people have pointed to this news as a way to say that there are troubles on the set but this was to be expected, Alex Kurztman has a full plate, especially with being appointed the lord master of all things connected to the Star Trek television front.

Just a few short months ago, It was announced that Kurztman will be overseeing a complete market saturation with four new shows reportedly in the works. It was announced during the summer that Patrick Stewart would return to Trek to reprise his role as Picard in an upcoming series. Additionally, CBS has greenlit another Star Trek spinoff series that will star Michelle Yeoh and center around the CIA-type organization known as Section 31. But that’s not all, two cartoons are also planned to air in the very near future. I feel like it’s safe to say that the future of Star Trek is looking bright!

The second season of Star Trek Discovery launched Jan. 17  with the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike to investigate seven red signals and the mysterious entity called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock (Ethan Peck).
